R. Dennis Shelby, PhD- Emeritus

R. Dennis Shelby, PhD- Emeritus guided the distance education program through its early years and initiated the Military/Veterans Specialization. He is on the faculty of The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute where he is the Director of Distance Education and a Training and Supervising Analyst. His international work includes being on the Faculties of the Si Chuan He Guang institute in Chengdu, China and the HamAva Institute in Terhan, Iran. Dennis is the recipient of the American Psychoanalytic Association’s 2019 Edith Shabsin Award for excellence in teaching psychoanalytic concepts to students outside of psychoanalytic training. His areas of clinical expertise psychoanalysis, supervision and issues related to sexual orientation, long-term HIV survival, military, and law enforcement related trauma. Dennis is the first Social Worker to be elected President of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Society.
