Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychotherapy Curriculum Overview
Our courses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and can be taken either Part-Time or Full Time.
The curriculum has a heavy emphasis to help students get the most out of the program to prepare them for a meaningful career in counseling and psychotherapy through a psychodynamic lens
Clinical Consultation
By discussing a case with other clinicians, students learn the importance of working through difficult work situations and struggles in their clinical cases. The goal of clinical consultation is to develop strategies with fellow students to diagnose and treat patients through a psychodynamic lens.
Practicum/Internships
Requiring field internships students learn to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the field. They engage in a range of practice opportunities and are supervised weekly by a qualified mental health professional.
Counseling and Psychotherapy
Another important aspect in preparing for a counseling career after graduation is understanding the core basics of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Graduates are well equipped to apply treatment goals to patients, diagnose their patients, and the competency to work with diverse clients in a range of settings

Rehabilitation Counselor
Using knowledge of disability treatment, these counselors help clients with disabilities either mental or physical live full and independent lives. Clients can range in age, disabilities, and need. Often rehabilitation counselors work alongside other professionals, such as occupational, cognitive, and speech therapists.
Health Educator
Health educator uses their masters in counseling to help either individuals or groups build and maintain healthy habits. Health educators usually work either in health facilities or offices. This can include public health departments, nonprofit organizations, or private businesses.
School Counselor
A school counselor helps students to achieve their academic goals, career goals and helps them become successful, well-adjusted young adults. They have become a necessary part of a school’s faculty, helping students succeed.
Social Worker
Clinical social workers help individuals, families, or communities with problems in their everyday lives. These problems can range from personal, to social-economic. The MA in clinical mental health counseling gives you a wide array of tools needed as a social worker.
Marriage and Family Therapist
With techniques learned from psychotherapy, a therapist can learn to diagnose and treat mental health issues. They also focus on family dynamics to improve communication and strengthen relationships. They can provide pre-marital, relationship, child, and divorce counseling.
