Dr. Denise Duval Tsioles as the new academic dean

Dr. Stewart stated, “We are fortunate to have someone with Dr. Duval Tsioles’ background and experience join us as academic dean. Her professional background as a psychotherapist, experience as a faculty member and academic administrator, understanding of program development, and commitment to social justice and diversity and inclusion, made her stand out as the candidate of choice for academic dean. I look forward to working with her in continuing to advance our mission and strengthening our commitment to psychodynamic graduate studies.” As the academic dean, Dr. Duval Tsioles will provide academic leadership, working in collaboration with the faculty, ensuring quality of instruction and learning across all programs. Dr. Duval Tsioles will also lead in expanding community and organizational partnerships that

support the Institute for Clinical Social Work’s mission and help to increase awareness about psychodynamic graduate studies.

Dr. Duval Tsioles earned her Ph.D. from the Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW). Since 2007, she has been on faculty at ICSW, where she teaches a doctoral level research seminar class and consults with doctoral students on their clinical cases and dissertations. She also held leaderships roles at ICSW as the associate director of doctoral studies and the director of the master's program. She has been an adjunct faculty member at Aurora University, has taught several research and psychodynamic clinical courses over the years, has been involved with research projects at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, and has conducted trainings on early childhood development, children and mental health, and parenting.

Dr. Duval Tsioles has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, educational institutions, private research consultation, child welfare services, and community counseling agencies. She is a published author, has presented at several conferences, and was a peer reviewer for a major clinical social work journal.

Dr. Duval Tsioles is also the founder and clinical director of Child Therapy Chicago. She is a psychodynamically oriented child psychotherapist supervisor with over twenty years of experience working with children and families. She specializes in working with young children using psychoanalytic play therapy and providing parent support and coaching. Her areas of

clinical expertise include children’s behavior, anxiety and other mood issues, school problems, divorce, and child-parent relationships, among others.

Dr. Duval Tsioles stated, “I am honored to take on this important role at ICSW. I truly love ICSW’s focus on training psychodynamically oriented clinicians and clinical researchers, and it excites me to see how students incorporate psychodynamic thinking in a wide variety of settings and with diverse populations. I am looking forward to helping ICSW continue to grow in new, unique and creative ways to keep us on the cutting edge of academic programming.”
