The Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW) is pleased to announce that
Tracey Rubio
is the 2023-2024 Ainsley Rebecca Thornhill Memorial Scholarship Scholar.
Tracey Rubio currently works at Santa Maria Hostel as a co-occurring substance use and psychiatric disorder counselor. “We are a substance use treatment facility focused on women with their children. There are only 2 treatment facilities in the state of Texas where she lives that allow women to bring their children to treatment with them so that they do not have to break up the family.”, says Tracey.
Tracey very much so enjoys her work, and gratified watching a woman come in, scared, pregnant, turn into a sober, loving new mother, while living on campus participating in her 90-day treatment. These women received the minimum treatment when it comes to psychotherapy, and it is Tracey’s goal to spend time, after earning her Ph.D., to work with these women, giving them treatment they would otherwise not be able to receive.
Tracey is an older student, but has not missed the joys that younger students are afforded. During her undergraduate, she was able to live a year abroad in London, travel across Europe, and made lifelong friends, proving it is never too late to follow your dreams.
