This presentation will be recorded.

This year the theme of the International Day of the African Child is “Education as a Human Right.”   Mr. Charles Niba will exemplify the many types of challenges faced by African children by focusing on education. Mr. Niba will illuminate these challenges through a discussion of his own educational experiences in a remote African village growing up and as an adult in the United States. He will present common African cultural themes and their impact on African children. He will focus on the psychological impacts of these themes, challenges and their implication for practitioners in the United States.

Presenter

Charles Niba was born and raised in Cameroon; a beautiful country located in the West of Central Africa. Growing up, he was always fascinated by the world around him and knew he wanted to make a difference in people's lives.

After relocating to California, he pursued his dream of studying social work, and became an Emergency Response social worker in Sacramento County. Charles was quickly recognized for his kind and compassionate approach to helping children and families in need. He spent countless hours advocating for the welfare of vulnerable children and quickly rose through the ranks and became a supervisor.

In addition to social work, Charles is a public health technician in the United States Air Force Reserve. He is very proud to serve his country and is deeply committed to helping keep fellow service members healthy and safe. Furthermore, Charles is an advanced Ph.D. student at ICSW. He is fascinated by psychodynamic principles, which he applies to his life and practice.

Charles is committed to his family and friends despite his competing professional demands.  He describes himself as a loving and devoted husband and father and indicates that his family is the most essential thing in the world. He loves spending time with his two boys and taking trips together to explore new places and to create memories. This summer, Charles and his family will explore France, Egypt, Cameroon, and South Africa.
